February 2008
Written by Peter Maguire of Maguire Educational Consulting for WWF-Canada
Funded by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
This resource is designed to assist in the instruction of the NWT Experiential Science 10-20-30 courses while increasing students’ knowledge of the protection of special natural and cultural areas in the NWT. This includes the protection of land, marine environments, and watersheds. Topics covered will include the Protected Areas Strategy (PAS), marine protected areas, and protection offered to watersheds.
Included in this manual are lessons and activities for all three course within Experiential Science. Section is most relevant to students at the grade 10 level, section two at the grade 11 level, and section three at grade 12. Each section of the resource includes several activities and lessons including blackline masters and suggested assessment and extension activities. Throughout this resource manual, group work and students sharing of information learned is encouraged.
Although the complete manual can be downloaded in PDF format here, the file size may be prohibitively large. As such, each section and each activity have been individually provided below.
Please note: These materials accompany a text book that is available from the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE). For textbook information, please contact the ECE Science Coordinator at (867) 873-7675
