Getting Started with the PAS
How to Start Working to Protect Your Special Places
- Start with a community meeting or a workshop. Talk about special natural and cultural areas of land.
- Talk to your local and regional leaders.
- Talk to your elders and people who work on the land.
- Talk to local groups such as the Renewable Resources Council or the Hunters and Trappers Association.
- Learn about the special areas in your land claim or land use plan, if you have one.
- Call the NWT PAS Secretariat for more information.
Who can help?
The NWT Protected Areas Strategy Secretariat is staffed with both federal and territorial government representatives. They coordinate the NWT PAS process. They can visit your community to talk about the NWT PAS. They can help you develop a proposal and help you get funding.
